IN THIS LESSON
There can be one or more reasons why you want to reclaim your life post-trauma.
In the end, the choice is yours.
It’s a common thread that runs through trauma survivors: the overwhelming need to reclaim what trauma took from you.
You may not have thought about it, but there are several reasons why. Let’s take a quick look at a handful of these reasons; maybe one or more of them resonates with you.
Reclaiming your life can:
Make you feel safe again
Repair trust in others and relationships
Help you regain a sense of control and autonomy
Restore your identity
Rewrite your life story so the trauma no longer has the leading role
Provide anticipation about the future
When trauma happens, it can feel like life was hijacked and we have no agency. We can either succumb to that feeling or set out to reclaim what we feel was stolen. If you’re reading this, I feel confident that you’re in the latter camp. The great news is that you can reclaim life, its meaning, and your identity!
